Description:

Escitalopram is an orally administered highly selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). Escitalopram is the pure S-enantiomer of the racemic citalopram and at least 100-fold more potent than the R-enantiomer.

Indications:

It is indicated for major depressive episodes generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder with or without agoraphobia and social anxiety disorder (social phobia)

The antidepressant action of Escitalopram is presumably linked to the potentiation of serotonergic activity in the central nervous system (CNS) resulting from its inhibition or CNS neuronal reuptake of serotonin (5-HT) from the synaptic cleft
