Description

\nMiconazole Nitrate is a broad spectrum antifungal agent. The range of action of Miconazole covers all dermatomycoses caused by the following pathogens: \n \nPhycomycetes, Ascomycetes and Adelomycetes (e.g. Saprolegnia, Candida, Cryptococcus, Aspergillus, Dermatophytes, Phialophora, Sporotrichum), and Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Trichophyton rubrum, Epidermophyton floccosum. Trichophyton interdigitale and Microsporum canis. \n \nMiconazole Nitrate also possesses some anti-bacterial activity against Gram-positive organisms. \n \n

Indications

\nDermatomycoses, e.g.: \n \n-Tinea pedis (Athlete's foot) \n-Tinea corporis (Tinea circinata) \n-Tinea manuum \n-Tinea cruris due to: \nTrichophyton mentagrophytes \nTrichophyton rubrum \nMicrosporum audouinii \nEpidermophyton floccosum \n-Candidial infections \n-Tinea versicolor. \n-Infections of the skin (e.g. intertrigo) \n-Perianal infections \n-Stomatitis angularis (cheilitis) \n-Balanoposthitis \n-Otitis externa \n \nIn addition miconazole cream has a very rapid alleviating effect on the pruritis which frequently accompanies infection. \n \n

Dosage & Administration

\nSufficient Miconazole Cream should be applied to cover affected areas twice daily (morning and evening) in patients with tinea pedis, tinea cruris, tinea corporis and cutaneous candidiasis and once daily in patients with tinea versicolor. If Miconazole Cream is used in intertriginous areas it should be applied sparingly and smoothed in well to avoid maceration effects. \nEarly relief of symptoms (2 to 3 days) is experienced by the majority of patients and clinical improvement may be seen fairly soon after treatment is begun.All lesions usually disappear after 2 to 5 weeks.Prolong treatment for 10 days to prevent relapse. However, Candida infections, tinea cruris and corporis should be treated for two weeks and tinea pedis for one month in order to reduce the possibility of recurrence. \n \n

Side Effects

\nIrritation, burning, maceration and allergic contact dermatitis may occur. \n \n
\n
\n

Precautions

\nFor external use only. Avoid introduction into the eyes. \n \n
\n
\n

Use in Pregnancy & Lactation

\nDuring pregnancy, this medication should be used only when clearly needed. \nIt is not known whether this drug passes into breast milk. \n \n
