Miconazole, a synthetic imidazole derivative, possesses both antifungal activity against the common dermatophytes yeasts and antibacterial activity against certain gram-positive bacilli and cocci. Miconazole selectively blocks ergosterol synthesis by inhibiting demethylation of lanosterol and thereby cause fungal cell death.

Mycon Oral Gel: Each gram gel contains Miconazole BP 20 mg.

Mycon Oral Gel is indicated for the prevention & treatment of fungal infections of mouth, throat, stomach & intestine.

For oral administration: The usual dose is 15 mg/kg/day in divided doses. Adults : 1-2 tea-spoonfuls of gel 4 times daily Children aged 6 years and over : 1 tea-spoonful of gel 4 times daily Children aged 2-6 years : 1 tea-spoonful of gel twice daily 1 month - 2 years : 1/2 tea-spoonful of gel twice daily Localised lesions of mouth: Smear small amount on affected area with clean finger 4 times daily for 5-7 days. Direction of use: •Wash your hand properly •Pour adequate gel on the spoon •Apply gel to the affected area with finger •For best result, gel must be kept at the affected area as long as possible •Using a clean finger, apply small amount of gel at a time to the inside cheeks and over the tongue of children •Apply Mycon oral gel on the denture of oral candidiasis caused by dental prosthesis and keep for whole night •For best result, continue treatment for 2 days after disappear of symptoms •Apply the gel preferably after meals

Miconazole Oral Gel is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any of its components and in patients with liver dysfunction.

Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea (with long-term treatment); rarely allergic reactions; isolated reports of hepatitis.

Miconazole can inhibit the metabolism of medicines metabolised by cytochrome 3A4 and 2C9 enzyme systems. This can result in an increase and/or prolongation of the effects, including side effects. Miconazole Oral Gel should not be used during treatment with the following drugs: Terfenadine, astemizole, mizolastine, cisapride, triazolam, oral midazolam, quinidine, pimozide, CYP3A4 metabolised HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors such as simvastatin and lovastatin.

Use in pregnancy and lactation : Although there is no evidence that Miconazole is embryotoxic or teratogenic in animals, potential hazards of prescribing these medicines during pregnancy should always be weighed against the expected therapeutic benefits.There are no data available on the excretion of Miconazole in human milk; therefore caution should be exercised when breastfeeding women are using Miconazole.
