Nebazin Ointment: Each gram ointment contains Neomycin Sulphate BP 5mg and Bacitracin Zinc USP 500 IU.

Description

Nebazin Ointment is a combination of Neomycin Sulphate and Bacitracin Zinc for topical use in mixed infection of the skin and mucous membrane due to susceptible organisms. It has broad spectrum of activity. Neomycin is active against many aerobic gram-negative bacteria and some aerobic gram-positive bacteria. Escherichia coli, Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella lacunata, indole-positive and indole-negative Proteus, Staphylococcus aureus, S. epidermidis, and Serratia. Bacitracin is active against many gram-positive organisms such as staphylococci (including some penicillin-resistant staphylococci), streptococci, anaerobic cocci, corynebacteria, and clostridia.

Indications
\n
This combined drug formulation is indicated in the treatment of topical bacterial infections. This is particularly effective in-

Atopic, contact stasis and infections
\n
Eczematoid dermatitis
\n
Neurodermatitis
\n
Eczema
\n
Anogenital pruritus
\n
Impetigo
\n
\n
Preventing infection in minor skin injuries (e.g. cuts, scrapes, burns)
\n
\n
Dosage & Administration
\n
Before use, the area for application should be cleaned gently. Debris such as pus or crusts should be removed from the affected area.
\n
A thin film to be applied 2 to 4 times daily
\n
Side Effects
\n
Generally this preparation is well tolerated. However, a low order of toxicity may be occurred like rashes and allergic anaphylactoid reactions in some patients. If itching, burning, inflammation or other signs of sensitivity occur during therapy, patients should be advised to discontinue the drug and consult a physician.

Precautions
\n
Patients considering self-medication with a topical anti-infective for deep or puncture wounds, animal bites, or serious burns should be advised to first consult a physician. Patients using the preparations for the prevention of infection in minor skin injuries (e.g., cuts, scrapes, burns) should be advised to discontinue the topical anti-infective preparation and consult a physician if the condition persists or worsens; it should not be used for longer than 1 week unless directed by a physician.

Use in Pregnancy & Lactation
\n
The safe use of this preparation during pregnancy & lactation has not been established. Therefore it should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.
